Can foods that make us feel good actually make us sick and feel more stress, anxiety and depression in the long run? Yes! Look at alcohol for example – it’s a quick fix that makes us feel good short term, but often ends up making things worse all around.

Ironically the foods that we often find ourselves craving are the same ones we
are allergic to.  Even your doctor would not typically be able to discern this
as they measure the common IgG response in the body to determine allergies. IgG
elevation is typified by common allergy symptoms, including runny nose, red or
watery eyes, etc.

Subclinical (meaning not always able to be diagnosed by a doctor in a clinical
setting) allergies, like subclinical vitamin deficiences, often go untreated. In
this case, a food allergy can illicit an IgE response that can lead to reactions
such as headaches and weight gain. They can also affect our mood making us more sensitive to stress, anxiety and depression.

They do this because the food triggers the allergic reaction which then releases
epinepherine into the body. This is one of those ‘feel good’ chemicals and so we
end up craving the very food that is bad for us!

In addition, foods like wheat and chocolate (dairy too) produce opiate like
compounds in the body that also are addicting, hence we can end up craving those
foods as well. Wheat in particular is riddled with so many negative risk factors I tell all my clients to avoid wheat products as much as possible. If you must consume
grains, use brown rice, quinoa, pure rye, oats, or even the new sprouted grain
products (Ezekial) as they are less associated with side effects.

Top foods to avoid that produce toxic reactions in the body are wheat, sugar,
soy, corn and dairy.  Learn to gradually shift your consumption of these to
healthier alternatives. For sugar, naturally occurring sugars in fruits are
better, as is Agave, and zero calorie herbals Stevia and Lo Han.

With soy, fermented soy appears safer, so items like tempeh and tofu could be
used.  The health benefits of soy are questionalbe and as I try to adopt a
‘Controversy Free’ philosophy, if there is doubt, its best to avoid it as much
as possible.

For corn there are also many substitutes from other less popular grains.  Dairy
can be safe if you get it raw & unpastuerized but this is not easy to come by. So
nut milks like almond, or even goat products appear to be less reactive in the
body.

Reblog this post [with Zemanta]

Recently someone asked me if I had been on any vacations recently. I said no,
but then later thought about it and realized almost every day for me is like a
vacation! I’ve managed to create a lifestyle that works for me – I make my
own hours, have time to eat healthy, exercise, and make time to appreciate the moments in life versus rushing through them. I’ve dedicated my life to being more present first, then working, eating, etc, second.

In reflecting upon last year, I noticed that I was rushing around to get
things done, and at times stressing out (good stress most would say) over the
success and growing pains of my company, Pure Life. Success brings stress often
as much as failure!  I’m not alone – I’ve seen first hand that all of my clients suffer from the effects of stress, anxiety, and the constant rushing around. Most of it due to their success!

Even good stress can be bad on the body. In fact, of the Top 10 Stressful
Events, many are good things like getting married, starting a new job, or buying a new house. The body reacts to stress; whether negative such as a fear of flying to fear of public speaking, or positive such as a new job or a new house; in the same way. And over the long term, this up and down cascade of hormones and chemicals in the body is a key to immune function and health.

As an interesting side, at least one study showed more people have heart attacks around their birthday. Why would a day that should be happy make people die? Perhaps because it makes them realize in some way how unhappy they truly are and that triggers feelings of stress, anxiety and depression.

I’m not saying happiness is bad, far from it. People who are truly happy tend to
live longer, healthier lives. I do think the kind of happiness is critical:
adrenaline producing, nervous or over-stimulated/excited types of happiness
trigger the stress response in our bodies. This can be unhealthy. Tranquil, centered, less emotionally intense happiness is I think a healthier type. For people that find themselves stressed, anxious or tense over any issue in their life, safe & fast-acting Gabatrol can help them feel better immediately so that they can more effectively handle these stressful situations. It can take the edge off tension so that you can be your best without feeling under pressure.

Back to vacations: in realizing every day can be like a vacation for me, I
realized profound gratitude. More and more I’ve been choosing to focus on what I
have to be thankful for. And it makes all the difference. My life is
far from perfect, but I am less and less “finding myself” – identifying who I
am, with the bad or painful events in life.

The opposite is true too – I am also trying to not identify myself with the good
things in my life. By practicing not being attached to the good things, it becomes easier to let go of the bad things that cause us pain.

So the attitude of gratitude will help shift you into a healthier state of
being. And if you need immediate relief, try Gabatrol!
