I tell all my clients, there is little good in just exercising, or just taking vitamins, or just meditating if you want to achieve superior results in your life. Many people tend to gain body fat when they are anxious or stressed. One reason is because they tend to reach out for ‘comfort foods’ that are often very fattening, or they simply eat more to drown out negative feelings. Often what happens is their eating pattern elevates the feel good neurotransmitter serotonin. Anyone abusing drugs or alcohol is doing so to feel good. Which means, in spite of being good looking and rich, Charlie Sheen is still unhappy. He suffers from some level of what makes people unhappy – feelings of stress, anxiety & depression.

He is not alone. Everyone reaches for some form of comfort when we feel down or bad. Junk food, cigarettes, being a couch potatoe – you name it, we all have negative habits that threaten our lives.

You do not need to go to the gym. In fact, in a world of stress, you are better off doing lower intensity exercise for your health. If you are an athlete or need to lose weight, then more intense exercise is in the program.

A diet high in HFCS will tend to deplete several nutrients in the body, lead to obesity and altered insulin function. Unfortunately people often reach for the worst foods when they feel down or stressed, and these so called ‘comfort foods’ only make us more depressed, stressed, anxious and angry in the long term.  Worse-  we tend to minimize the risks and dangers of behaviors we like (like eating junk food, drinking alcohol, etc) and overstate the benefits of them.
